Please note, if your engine suffers a cam belt failure the valves will hit the pistons and will bend the valves, very often the impact will cause damage to the bottom end of the engine which will not become apparent until approximately 500-3000 miles after the top of the engine has been repaired. This is why we don't just rebuild the top half of the engine after a cam belt failure.

We charge £1,500 inclusive of VAT to supply and fit a fully rebuilt twin spark engine. If certain parts from your old engine cannot be re-used due to a severe failure this price may increase as detailed below.

On all Twin Spark engine rebuilds we carry out the following work:

• Crankshaft: Will be fully inspected to check for imperfections and polish and ground where necessary.

• Cylinder head: Will be completely dismantled, and skimmed to ensure a perfect seal on the block. All valves are resurfaced and lapped to ensure a gas tight seal with the valve seat. Valve guides are checked and replaced if there is any damage (this occurs when cam belts snap and the valves are bent)

• Engine block: Will be fully inspected for imperfections or cracks. If necessary, the block will be honed and re-bored.

• Oil pump: All oil pumps will be stripped down and their tolerances checked, if the rotor clearance is found to be outside manufactures recommended limits it will be renewed.

If the engine we are replacing has any damage to the following items, which are typically reusable, we charge the following:

If the entire engine is scrap we will charge a combined surcharge of £500

When an engine is out and it is being replaced with a new one, we recommend changing the clutch. There is no charge for labour, the parts cost is £150. It is also advisable to change the slave cylinder at the same time, which costs £50.

This will give you a new engine and clutch, which will give many reliable miles of enjoyment from your Alfa Romeo; we guarantee our work for total satisfaction.

With our rebuilt engines we offer a 12,000 mile or 12 month warranty, which ever comes first. Here are the terms of our warranty:

Fluid levels, namely oil and water, must be checked regularly as oil starvation or water shortage (over-heating) will void the warranty. The engine must also be kept below 3,500 rpm for the first 1,000 miles for running-in purposes. After 500 miles, the oil and oil filter must be changed (oil filters are marked to ensure this has been done). Any electrical fault causing mechanical failure will also void our warranty as this separate to any engine work carried out by us.
